What is the main difference between Intramural Sports and Club Sports?
The biggest difference between UCI Intramural Sports and UCI Club Sports is that Intramural students form structured teams to compete against other UCI students, whereas in Club Spots, students form non-Varsity teams to compete against other universities and colleges in the nation.
What level do I need to be at in order to participate?
Most students join Intramurals to build unity with fellow students and to have fun. Club sports on the other hand have a majority of club players that are highly skilled and compete at the maximum level.
What costs are involved?
A one-time registration fee is required to play Intramurals. Club Sports require students to pay a membership fee, travel fee, and miscellaneous fees to help purchase equipment and pay for tournament expenses.
Who are the coaches?
Club sports will recruit and hire coaches to coach their team, while intramural players rely on past experience and their skills to get them through the next game.
Who officiates the games?
Intramurals use student officials to officiate the games. Club sports will use high school and college officials to referee their games.
What amount of commitment can I expect?
Intramural teams meet once a week to play, and in the end, a single elimination format is used to determine the Intramural Champion.
Club sport teams participate by competing against other schools in regional leagues or national conferences, and play full seasons with National Championship Opportunities.
They also participate through holding practices on a regular weekly basis. They practice during preseason, regular season, post season, and sometimes meet during off season.
Intramurals provide an opportunity to play in a competitive atmosphere without having to be committed to weekly practices.
