Capri 1 (Beg Sail) This is where you start! No Experience necessary... Learn basic sailing using our 14' sailboats, the Capri's. Combine dockside lectures, demonstrations, and lots of on the water sailing. The class is a pre-requisite for Capri 2. For all Capri classes, you need to register and pay before first class meeting, and get the map, directions and information sheet. Upon completion of this class, participants may take: Capri 2 and Flying Junior. All classes meet at the sailbase.

Capri 2 (Adv Beg Sail) Emphasis on practical sailing skills, efficient sail trim, balance, safety and control. Includes a solid review of the basics from Capri 1 and lots of "tiller time". This class is a good way to refresh your skills or prepare for your "Capri Skipper Rating" test. Pre-requisite is Capri 1. Upon completion of this class, participants may take Capri Racing or Keelboat 1.

Capri Plus This is a class for those who have taken Capri and 2 (or equivalent) and just want some additional supervised sailing and practice in the Capri's. Also a good class for those who previously had a rating and need a bit of refreshing before they take the boats out on their own.

Family Sailing During the summer we offer classes where a parent may take a class with their children 12 years and older. Each adult may sign up to 2 children to take the class with them. This class is taught in our Capri's and is a great way to spend some summer fun with your children!

Keelboat 1 (Int Sail) Also called Shields. Apply your basic sailing skills on larger sailboats. Taught with three or four students sailing aboard each of our Shields 30 foot keelboats. Includes instruction manual, dockside lecture, and on the water drills to learn boat handling, sail trim, safety and teamwork. Primarily taught within Newport Harbor, but we do sail out to the bell buoy. Pre-requisite is Capri 2, Capri Rating, or equivalent. Upon completion, participants may take Keelboat 2.

Keelboat 2 (Adv Sail) This class, also called "Shields 2" teaches advanced more boat handling techniques. Includes anchoring, safety, sail shape, more. Lots of practice in the boat. This class is the follow to Keelboat/ Shields 1 for those working towards their UCISA S1 rating.S1). Pre-requiste is Keelboat 1. Upon completion, participants may take Keelboat 3 and Keelboat 4.

Keelboat 3 (Int/Adv Sail) This class emphasizes sailing the Shields outside the harbor. Gives you a good chance to get experience sailing outside in the ocean. Includes sailing in waves and chop, as well as orientation to our local coast. Designed for those working toward an S2 rating and need time outside the harbor.

Keelboat 4 (Adv Sail) This class introduces you to spinnakers. Learn to set gybe and sail with these exciting sails. Primarily taught within the harbor. Class emphasizes teamwork and basic skills for sailing with spinnakers. In addition to regular classes, small group classes can be arranged. Pre-requisites are Keeboat 2 or Keelboat 3.

Shields "Light" This is a class for those who have had Keelboat 1 (weekday) or Keelboat 1 and 2 (weekend) and just want to do some relaxing sailing in the bay.
