  1. What do I get from a basic SCUBA class?
    Basic SCUBA Class is the Open Water Certification. It is an SSI, SCUBA Schools International, certification. SSI and PADI are the two largest and most widely recognized SCUBA certifications in the world. This allows you to dive to a depth of 150 feet in any open water in the world.
  2. Can I check out the SCUBA class before I sign up?
    You may attend the SCUBA orientation without signing up before hand in order to ask questions and understand how the schedule will run. The orientation will take place at Sea Stallions Dive Shop at 21098 Bake Parkway Suite # 108 in Lake Forest at 10am on the Saturday morning that your class is scheduled to start. Please contact the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator, Doug Tully at 949-824-0388 or dtully@uci.edu prior to the orientation so that the session is not inadvertently cancelled. Students will sign up with the ARC sales desk if they decide to enroll in the class after the orientation.
  3. How long does the SCUBA class run?
    SCUBA class is approximately 7 weeks in length consisting of classroom and pool sessions along with ocean dives. The instructor at orientation will be able to assist in setting up a schedule for everyone in the class. There are 2 pool dives that are taught in conjunction with a classroom session and are a full day commitment. The ocean dive segment of class consists of 4 dives performed on Saturdays and/or Sundays from 7:30am to approx. 12:30pm.
  4. Do I need any of my own gear?
    All students will need to have their own mask, snorkel, fins, booties and gloves. All other gear will be provided for you by your instructors. Students are highly encouraged to purchase their personal gear at Sea Stallions SCUBA Shop. In fact one of the class sessions is devoted to helping students choose the best gear for them. The staff can help you with any questions you might have.
  5. Do your instructors offer SCUBA trips for their students?
    Yes, they offer trips to Catalina Island to complete your certification for an additional fee and they plan 3-4 fee based dive trips a year to many amazing locations!
