The Department of Campus Recreation offers a complete sailing program, which includes instructional classes, a sailing club (UCI Sailing Association) and personal recreational use of the boats. We have a fleet of Capri 14ft dinghies and J22's day sailing keelboats available for classes and personal use. In addition, there is a wide variety of sailing activities; racing, night sails, fun sails, evening lectures, and social events. All of the boats are located at the sail base in Newport Harbor. Our Classes: The beginning level course, Capri 1, is designed for those with little or no experience. Intermediate and advanced level classes are also offered using our Capri 14’s, Flying Juniors and J22 keelboats. Classes are open to all UCI and UC students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Spouses/domestic partners of the above are also eligible. Those eligible may sign up a friend (18 years and older) to take a class with them. Click here to view the current schedule.
Recreational Boat Use and Sailing Association: UCISA membership is one of the most affordable and fun ways to get out on the water. Personal recreational use of our Capri 14's and J22's is available, as well as a variety of sailing and social activities. In addition to personal use of the boats, UCISA members can participate in races, fun sails, seminars and more. UCISA membership is open to all UCI and UC students, faculty, staff and alumni (and spouses/domestic partners).
To qualify for personal use of the boats, there are several rating levels that include written and on-the-water tests. Our classes are designed to help you get started. For complete information on the Ratings, visit the ratings page.
