SAILING CLASS SCHEDULE

All Sailing classes take place at Marina Park, located in Newport Beach (click for details). Class fees are listed for UCI Students and community members.

All Sailing class registration takes place online through the City of Newport Beach - https://apm.activecommunities.com/cnbreg/Activity_Search and click “CLASSES” and then search for your class of interest.  For any questions, please contact Campus Recreation Services (949)824-3738. Please register prior to the first class.
    Information for all sailing classes:
  • All equipment provided, including lifejackets!
  • You'll receive an e-mail, prior to class with UCI waiver, suggested clothing, and other useful information.
  • Completed UCI waivers are required and should be brought to the first class session.
  • Current college identification card or proof of tuition/fee payment required at first class to receive student discount.
    Full-time student -Use SAILFALL as Activation Code.
  • Parking for Marina Park classes is free if you use the Parkmobile app.

Introduction to Sailing - Dinghy Fee: $65 (students - $55, SAILFALL)  
  Saturday Date: 4/1 Time:  10:00am - 1:00pm REGISTER NOW
Description: If you've ever wanted to try sailing, this 1-day class is for you! Our easy, hands-on approach teaches the basics and has you sailing an RS Quest (14' dinghy/small boat) in just three hours. You'll have 1-3 people in your boat so register with a friend.
Beginner Sailing - Dinghy Fees: $140 (students $125, SAILFALL)

Description: Build your knowledge and confidence while sailing all around Newport Harbor in an RS Quest 14' dinghy (small boat). This 4-session class will teach you the basics about sailing, with on-the-dock demos and sailing your own boat on day one. By the end of the 4 weeks, you will have learned the fundamentals of rigging, steering, wind direction, and basic sailing safety.
Intermediate Sailing - Dinghy Fees: $140 (students $125, SAILFALL)

Description: You’ve got the sailing “bug” and you want to keep up the momentum. It’s time to build upon the fundamentals. This class helps you develop your skills and boat-handling, with further instruction and more time on the water, in these boats.
Dinghy Racing Clinic Fees: $65 (students $55, SAILFALL)

Description: Now that you're confident on the water, your competitive skills have kicked-in. This 1-Day class (conducted in the RS Quest) teaches you how to pass that boat next to you, by learning the basics of racing. Instruction includes coaching and practice with starts, rules, tactics, mark-roundings, advanced boat-handling, crew communication and more! Pre-Req: Intermediate Sailing - Dinghy.
Introduction to Sailing - Keelboat Fee: $75 (students - $65, SAILFALL)  
  Sunday Date: 4/2 Time:  1:00pm - 4:00pm REGISTER NOW
Description: This 1- day class is for the beginner who'd like to learn how to sail in a keelboat. You'll be able to build knowledge and confidence in the comfort of a stable 16.5' RS Venture, with an instructor on-board with you for personalized instruction. You'll have a max of 4 other students on-board with you, while you learn basic sailing fundamentals, points-of-sail, right of way, safety, rigging, docking and more.
Keelboat Racing Clinic Fees: $65 (students $55, SAILFALL)

Description: Now that you're confident on the water, your competitive skills have kicked-in. This 1-Day class (conducted in the J/22) teaches you how to pass that boat next to you, by learning the basics of advanced boat-handling, crew communication and more! Pre-Req: Keelboat 1 or Eq.
Keelboat 1 Fees: $165 (students $155, SAILFALL)

Description: For intermediate sailors who are looking for the next step after a couple of Dinghy class series or after a Beginning Keelboat class in the Venture keelboat. In this 4-session class, you'll apply the sailing fundamentals you learned in the dinghy or Venture classes to our larger 22' keelboats. The J/22s have different rigging, crew positions, boat-handling techniques and so much more to learn. Pre-Req: Intermediate Sailing - Dinghy and/or Beginner Sailing - Keelboat.
Keelboat 2 Fees: $165 (students $155, SAILFALL)  
  Sunday Dates:   1/22 - 2/12 Times: 1:30pm - 4:30pm REGISTER NOW
  Saturday Dates:   2/25 - 3/18 Times: 1:30pm - 4:30pm REGISTER NOW
Description: The perfect class for an intermediate/advanced sailor who wants to get more performance, do drills, get physical and go fast. Possibly introduce spinnaker and ocean sailing. Pre-Req: Intermediate Sailing class or similar experience.
Spinnaker Clinic Fees: $65 (students $55, SAILFALL)  
  Saturday Dates:  4/8 Times:  1:00pm - 4:00pm REGISTER NOW
Description: Learn how to rig and fly an asymmetrical spinnaker on the RS Quest dinghy and a symmetrical spinnaker on the J/22 keelboat. Try sailing with both or choose to spend more time on one boat type. Pre-Req: Beginner Sailing-Dinghy or eq.
Ocean Sailing Clinic Fees: $75 (students $65, SAILFALL)  
  Sunday Dates:  4/9 Times:  12:00pm - 4:00pm REGISTER NOW
Description: Learn how to handle a J/22 keelboat in the swell and chop while getting a change of scenery in the ocean. Some advanced boating skills such as navigation and anchoring and towing procedures may be taught, conditions permitting. Pre-Req: Keelboat 1 or eq.

Note to All Participants: All class sessions will meet at the sail base at Marina Park. Please register for the class through the Newport Beach Recreation wesbite prior to the first class meeting. Directions and information will all be on the UCI Campus Rec website . All sailing class students must wear close-toed shoes and sign a WAIVER/SWIM PROFICIENCY statement.
