Join the Campus Recreation Operations staff to make a difference in the day to day experience of all ARC patrons.
Front Desk/Gear Up
The ARC Front Desk/ Gear Up staff are the primary contact of the whole facility while delivering exceptional customer service and creating a significant recreation experience for all patrons.
  • Serve as front-line customer service rep and membership check-in.
  • Responsible for monitoring building systems: including sound, security and lighting
  • Answering ARC facility phone line
  • Equipment check-out, sales, racquetball courts, and court reservations during operational hours.
Lifeguard
Lifeguard at the Anteater Recreation Center Aquatic Plaza. Enforcement of pool safety, rescue of distressed and/or drowning persons, provide first aid.

  • The lifeguard position requires weekend, evening and holiday work as well as work during quarter breaks.
  • Required CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard First Aid by the American Red Cross. Optional certification - W.S.I.
Marketing Assistant
Marketing assistants are responsible for creating promotional graphics and videos. They will also be on-site photographers and assist with social media creation.
  • Must be available to work at least 10 hours per week between the hours of 8am-5pm M-F
  • Dynamic, friendly individual with strong organizational skills
  • Must be familiar with adobe suite sofware, video editing basics, DSLR photography & popular social media platforms
Sales Desk Assistant
Enthusiastic, out going, team players to greet guests, disseminate information, process enrollments for classes and membership, and answer phones. Assist professional staff on special projects. Basic knowledge of word processing/data entry and cashiering required.
  • Greet guests with enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • Work as a team to disseminate information, process memberships and class enrollments
  • Manage records, files and process payments.
  • Effectively communicate information on the phone and in person.
Special Events
Assist in the execution of scheduled events from start to finish. Event Supervisor is in charge of set up, tear down, and acting as the liaison between the facility and the point of contact for the events. Must be available to work nights and weekends.
  • Event/staff supervision and management experience desired
  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs frequently
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred
Technology Assistant
The Technology Assistant primary duties are providing computing support for Campus Recreation at the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC). Provides troubleshooting and end-user support for software and hardware.
  • Support Campus Recreation staff with routine software issues (install, configure, troubleshooting)
  • Support Campus Recreation staff with all computer hardware including workstations, peripherals and printers.
  • Audio Visual setup and support in various different areas around the ARC.
  • Digital signage hardware maintenance and troubleshooting
Weight Room Assistant
The student employees interact with patrons, monitor weight room equipment, and maintain a safe, clean, and organized atmosphere. They stand and supervise the weight rooms to ensure that our members are safe, and provide good customer service to anyone who needs it. They also do laundry and clean workout machines.
  • Watches, directs, and safeguards patrons.
  • Maintains area to ensure a clean environment including, but not limited to the following: providing and washing cleaning rags, re-racking weights, and cleaning equipment.  
  • Presents a positive attitude of UCI Campus Recreation and its facilities and programs.

Club Sports Assistant
The Club Sports Assistant will assist with the oversight and management of our club sports teams. They are responsible for assisting with the coordination of club travel and home activities, be in frequent communication with club officers, help facilitate club officer trainings and meetings, and ensure the club sport teams are following proper policies and procedures. Additional projects may be assigned as needed. 
     
  • Ability to remain calm in all situations and handle and resolve conflict in a timely and orderly manner
  • Ability to work unassisted
  • Strong verbal communication, customer service, and writing skills
  IM Sports Official
Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety.  
  • Officiate Intramural contests.
  • Assist with preparation and inspection of the game site.
  • Provide positive public relations, program promotion, and policy education to participants
  • Attend all officials training clinics.
  Sports Medicine Aide
There are 39 active club sports with approximately 1700 club members and over 700 high risk members. The Sports Medicine Aide will be responsible for assisting UCI Club Sports Full-Time Athletic Trainer in daily operations of the athletic training clinic and club sport events.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments for club sports members, administering ImPACT baseline tests, monitoring rehabilitation exercise programs, and maintaining facility and equipment cleanliness.
  • Responsible for set up, clean-up, and providing basic first aid (ie. wound cleaning, bandaging, ice, etc) during all home club sports events.
  • Understands and complies with HIPAA, OSHA, and program standards.
  • Interest in sports medicine or other healthcare professions preferred.

Kitchen Assistant
The kitchen assistant will help with a variety of tasks ranging from prepping for classes to washing dishes. Responsibilities include taking direction from the chef or kitchen manager on duty, ability to be quick on their feet and possess general knowledge about cooking and kitchen equipment. Must maintain a clean and organized workspace for chefs and patrons of cooking classes.
  • Prep and help run cooking classes.
  • Wash dishes and clean up after cooking events.
  • Present a positive attitude of UCI Campus Recreation and its facilities and programs.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and non-verbally with patrons, co-workers, and superiors.
Student Trip Leader
Student Trip Leaders will assist with Outdoor Adventure trips and programs. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to equipment set up, food shopping, food prep, hiking, camping, rock climbing, instructions to have participants assist with duties, lifting, carrying, being in the sun, being outdoors, driving, knowledge of emergency procedures and assisting participants with special needs. Student Trip Leaders will be leading and participating with the event from beginning to end.
  • Check in participants from roster and ensure all waivers and emergency contact info has been collected.
  • Instruct participants on activities and the timeline of events for the program.
  • Lead group on the event with additional coaching and direction.
  • Instruct participants on various aspects of the activity such as rock climbing, camping or backpacking.
Team Up Co-Facilitator
Team Up! offers a low ropes course and a unique high ropes course for team building and leadership development programs for UCI groups and public groups. Challenge course facilitators guide groups through a series of activities involving problem-solving, group decision making, leadership, teambuilding and positive risk taking.
  • Lead guests/clients in a safe and fun manner through our programming and challenge course.
  • Follow established procedures and enforcing all safety regulations.
  • Willingness to play and share a sense of adventure with guests.

Building Maintenance Assistant
The Building Maintenance Assistant is ideal for students who are interested in learning maintenance and repair skills in a fun environment.
  • Changing air filters and performing preventative maintenance on HVAC systems
  • Assist in plumbing, carpentry, electrical and painting.
  • Inspect and clean mechanical rooms
  • Paint and touch up door frames
  • Use a work order system to track jobs
Custodial Assistant
The Custodial Assistant is plays a vital role in the presentation of the Anteater Recreation Center. This position is ideal for people who can only work limited afternoon, evening, night and weekend hours. Candidates must be responsible, reliable and work under minimal supervision.
  • Empty Landfill and Recycle bins
  • Replenish locker room toiletries
  • Keeping locker room nice and tidy
  • Use Ride-On vacuum on hallways
  • Report and write work orders for repair
Groundskeeping Assistant
The Groundskeeping Assistant helps keep the outdoor spaces of the ARC healthy and beautiful. This position is ideal for people who enjoy being outdoors, like learning about plants and have an eye for detail. Some tasks include pruning, mowing and flower bed cultivation.

Group Exercise Instructor
Group exercise instructors prepare classes and lead exercises with enthusiasm. We prefer certified instructors, but we are willing to train some who have a proficiency in a particular format. For example, for those who are enthused about cycling, and perform well for us, we will provide a Schwinn Certification. 
    The formats for which we often have a need are:

Kayak/SUP Instructor
Kayak Instructors will assist with leading paddling programs on the water. They will be in charge of setting up equipment for participants, providing instructions before, during and after each paddling event and the care and clean-up of the facility. Instructors must possess strong swimming ability and a comfort with the water.
  • Instruct participants on paddling technique and safety considerations
  • Lead group on the water with additional coaching and direction
  • Instruct participants on dock launching procedures
  • Strong swimming abilities required
Recreation Instructor
Plan, organize, and conduct a variety of non-credit recreational activity classes and/or workshops for students, faculty and staff and perform other related duties as required. Incumbents prepare course outlines and lesson plans for assigned sessions outlining progression of lectures, demonstrations, and the extent of enrollee participation in various recreational activities. Classes include but are not limited to such activities as martial arts, dance, sports, and specialized skills. 
  • Actively supports the UCI ARC is committed to inclusion and compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.
  • Planning and implementing classes based on a specific topic and skill mastery, culminating in an exposition/showcase at the end of the session.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains site and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance UCI ARC expectations.
Rockwall Belay Staff
Rock Wall Belay Staff will work with custom climbing programs and youth summer camps to ensure safety at the climbing wall. No climbing experience necessary.
  • Obtain and maintain knowledge and certification in safety belay skills (will provide this training if needed)
  • Belay participants on the event with additional coaching and encouragement
  • Instruct participants on activities for the program
Rockwall Instructor
Rock Climbing Instructors will prepare the wall for recreational climbing and teach curriculum to rock climbers during climbing classes. This person will be responsible for following all policies and procedures of the rock climbing wall.
  • Knowledge and experience with indoor or outdoor rock climbing including; instruction, equipment usage.
  • Conduct skills check lessons and competency exams for beginning climbers.
  • Must be able to work professionally in a rock climbing gym setting.
Swim Instructor
Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for professional instruction of all swim lessons. Swim Lesson Instructor is also responsible for the safety of members in the pool and pool area by enforcing policies and procedures courteously and professionally. It is essential to keep certifications current and follow emergency procedures when necessary. This position requires skill in preventing accidents and maintaining a safe and nurturing aquatic environment for all members.
  • Swim Lesson Instructor candidates are to perform: 25 yards each of the six strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and butterfly) and tread water for 2 minutes with two different kicks.
  • Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance; ability to react appropriately and remain calm and efficient in caring for problems; knowledge of proper swimming techniques.
  • Experience instructing swim lessons or coaching aquatic youth or adult programs.
Youth Instructor
Responsible for class leadership to promote developmental skills to youth camp participants in a safe, professional, and caring manner while assisting them in working towards positive self image and personal growth.
  • Implements lesson plans with fun and enthusiasm while interacting with children at their level and providing an enriching experience for participants.
  • Planning and implementing classes based on a specific topic and skill mastery, culminating in an exposition/showcase at the end of the session.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains site and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance UCI ARC expectations.

Youth Camp Assistant
Day Camp Counselor, within a license-exempt day camp program, develops positive, nurturing relationships with campers while building cooperative relationships with guardians/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience. Provides direction for the campers in the program. Provides direction for the campers in the program.
  • Nurtures campers through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth.
  • Maintains close visual supervision of a group of assigned campers in a weekly session and in alignment with program ratios set by the UCI ARC.
  • No child is left unsupervised or staff alone with a child at any time. • Help campers manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences.
Youth Instructor
